About the Site

I debated for a long time about what to call this blog. Various ideas presented themselves - Frugal Fun, Tightwad Toronto - but none of them seemed right. Probably in part because I wasn't sure what I wanted this site to be about. I knew I wanted to talk about the great stuff you can do for free in Toronto, but there's so much more to love about Toronto - what if I want to write about some of that? Then Steve suggested Hogspot and it seemed perfect. What does it mean? I don't know, but I like it. And I hope you'll like Hogspot too.

I expect the site will expand and evolve over time but for now I see it having 3 main elements:

* The blog posts, which will largely focus on great free (or nearly free) stuff to do in Toronto
* The Free in Toronto event calendar, with various events around the city, all FREE (found at the bottom of the page) - now discontinued and replaced by the Toronto Events page
* Where to Get Beer Cheap Today, which will be a list of regular specials at bars and restaurants in the city - and it will feature more than just beer

Lately, the blog posts have been few and far between, but the Events page is updated regularly, so keep checking back.

Please email me with tips, recommendations or comments and enjoy the site!

Update: The evolution has begun! While looking for free events, I can't help but come across postings for other events that have a price tag attached, and as some of them are pretty neat, it just seems a shame not to track them too. So, I've added a Toronto Events page. It will list exhibits, performances and events happening throughout the city. It's also an easy way for me to track festivals, which often have both free and charged events. I can't possibly track everything, but if you hear of an event that you think others might be interested in, please email me with the details.
